Thanks for posting this Oliver. Ya, we kind of imaged this summers BIG boy tour was off. Now I wonder why we didn't head to Duluth and catch him while he was there this past summer. Duluth is not that far from us. :( Maybe later I'll be smarter.

Well anyway some good news. Progress coming along on our newly refurbished rail station, tracks and catenary in Wawa, PA!
I snapped a couple pics from the northbound and southbound lanes. The first of 2 bridges crossing Route 1 (Baltimore Pike) have been set. Work slowed a little with the virus for a few months, but is now picking up again.
You wouldnt believe what the reconstruction and track refurbishing has done to the area. You guessed it....new housing developments/townhouses going up just a few hundred yards from new station.
The old Franklin Mint was completely torn down to make room for more homes!!! Fellas the Franklin Mint was no joke. It was huge! Even had its own museum of all the coins they minted!
Its a mixed blessing. The new rail transportation hub is going to be spectacular, but the additional influx of homes will add substantial traffic and pressure on the schools. At least the passenger station will help alleviate road traffic. Cant wait to see the old rails running again! Hopefully they decide to open the other branch to my town (Chadds Ford). Hope to live to see the day when I can take a passenger train from my town again!
First picture is northbound on Route 1 from Wawa towards Philadelphia
Second picture is southbound on Route 1 from Philadelphia towards Wawa.

Hey, it's just fun to say "Wawa!" over and over again.

Nice to see some progress.

You probably already know this, but it means “ Wild Geese “ in Lenni-Lenape Indian language. It’s the birthplace and national headquarters for a very successful convenience store called Wawa. It’s like a Seven-Eleven convenience store.

I've seen them out east, but never knew their story...

Wawa (company) - Wikipedia

Their world headquarters is about 250 yards from where I took the pictures of the Wawa station. My guess is quite a few employees at HQ will use the new train station to take the train home. Also, they have a large dairy processing plant across the street and Wawa University (employee training) center. They are an extremely successful company and still privately owned. In the second picture, the Bottom left corner is Wawa HQ. The red arrow is new Wawa station and upper right corner is Wawa Dairy and Wawa University.
Just below where it says Chester Creek is where the line splits and heads 4-5 miles south into Chadds Ford. The Chester Creek flooded and washed out a half dozen spots along the first 2 miles of the tracks. The last 3 miles are not damaged, just overgrown. If they ever rebuilt that section, it would be a spectacular passenger route with lots of people to move.
In the first picture, I drew a blue line in an arc that follows where the line to Chadds Ford branched off the main line.
Im wondering if itll happen in my lifetime.

Never heard of them but I'd never heard of Kum and Go until the first rime I drove west for a hunting trip. Kum and Go (Kum & Company) gas stations are very popular west of the Mississippi.

Bought myself a 'Kum and Go' baseball hat. When I wear it around here, people give me funny looks...:D

Wawa is the name of a gas station chain
