I do like those 'articulated' Garratts still in use in South Africa and perhaps still 'down under' (three countries) but is there no love for Shays too? So many of them were special-purpose and NG. (typically 3'?)

Garratts will easily take a smaller radius than any of the Mallets or similar articulateds used in the States into the mid-'50s. (Alleghanies) That has much to do with their survival on old iron. btw, there's no such thing as an ugly train. :)

I now wonder if these small articulated locomotives had the same spherical ball connections to move the steam pressure to the drive trucks like the B Boy did? :unsure: As I understand it, these spherical ball connections were a special feature of them.
