I started poking around and apparently there are around 1000 derailments in the US every year. Of course, that can be one wheel or 100 cars. Still interesting.

Here is a cool UP safety film made back in the 70's.. I worked as a carman starting in the late 70's and seen everything it shows, although the brass bearings were gone. Gosh this film brings back memories.....

You'll still see plain bronze journals on steel mill bottle cars today. Of course they don't go that far or fast and all of them are on private trackage.

This locomotive was ordered new for the Peterson mine in Ironwood Michigan. Now being restored at Plymouth locomotive service in Ohio and will be going back to Skandia Michigan to be run on the Neo Wilson memorial railway.
