It's a shame they have to paint RR cars, as some of the art is pretty amazing. Some of the artists are truly talented. I saw an entire side of an auto rack car painted a while back, end to end, top to bottom. Don't remember what was on it, but it was very good art.
Yeah. Coming from an art background, I can appreciate the talent.

However, if someone doesn't have permission to place the art, it shouldn't be placed. Plain and simple. Regardless of if it's just the side of a box car, building, fence, etc. Don't do it. The only word that applies is vandalism.

Graffiti - A local legend. It's at a high-traffic regional intersection.

It was simple for many years. Then:

It started getting continually updated.

Wonder how much enviromental damage they cause with all the spray can chemicals and insurance costs to clean up after them.
Nobody cares. Priorities are elsewhere.
Chicago passed an ordinance banning spray paint cans (for "underage" kids ?), years ago. Wonder how well that is working. (I don't live there anymore...)

It aint workin in Philly. If I owned the rail car paint shop, you might as well just let the graffiti dopes paint them instead.

I bet those 2 black painted rail cars are covered in a year.

Wow! That's rare.

I was wondering the other day while sitting at a crossing watching just about every car covered in graffiti how many cans of spray paint and how much time it would take to do an entire car like that?
Kids with way too much idle time on their hands and probably bad parents as well.

Detroit-Bay City & Alpena RR over the Rifle River, near Alger, c. 1880's. Notice the logs in the river.
The Detroit, Bay City & Alpena Railroad, was a narrow gauge short line operated from Bay City northward to the Lake Huron port of Alpena. The line was converted to standard gauge in 1886 and was reorganized into the Detroit and Mackinac (D&M) on December 17, 1894.
