Working tractor while in regeneration cycle or not

I believe it is a more recent issue with the newer engines and emissions. I too witnessed trucks idling all the time at our local truck stops decades ago and family and friends that trucked said they would run those rigs up close to a million miles with no major problems. I have a cousin that drives now and I believe he said they use an APU, Auxillary power unit, I took it to be like a small generator that runs on diesel or propane.

Probably the difference between warming up to idle temp, and only ever cooling down to idle temp too. Keeping the engine running and warm is golden for getting good life out of it. Plus I am pretty sure a 300hp truck was a big one back then. A 600hp engine making 300hp should last forever.

I tend to be overly aware of the soot % (in my JD4066) and tend to watch this on my readout / gauge more than anything else. Watch it move up and occasionally watch it slowly work down, all based on the activity level of the engine and machine in general. I am definitely getting a better feel for it after 9 months of ownership.
