After years of not having a freeze plug heater I have to say it makes a huge difference in the sound of the engine in Cold weather. Instead of sounding like loose ball bearings flying around inside the cylinder it is actually quite quiet on initial startup. To me , It was worth the few bucks it cost. If I was running synthetic along with the block heater it would probably sound like I had an electric motor in there. Less noise to me is less wear on engine components. Cheap upgrade in my opinion....It's still cold sitting in the seat when you don't have a cab though.
