World population facts

If the entire population of the world were put into the land area of Texas, each person would have an area equal to the floor space of a typical U.S. home and the population density of Texas would be about the same as Paris, France

I guess it all depends on your view of what "overpopulated" is. I work in a city that probably has about the same population density as Paris. But I kind of like BEING in places where it would take a week of walking to get to the nearest paved road or power line.

Alaska, the Andes, some parts of the Southwest, the Himalaya, Antarctica ...it sure would be a pity if they ever had a population density even as great as the Maine woods, much less Paris.

I won't argue facts; however:

When you've been country "born 'n bred", all these people building mini cities in your "backyard" makes you wonder about overpopulation. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Of course, back to facts, at what point have humans really overpopulated a positively contributing role on earth? When every square mile is the density of Paris? Right before the industrial revolution? 1000 years from now? The proverbial apple? I don't know; just posing the question /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Space is only one aspect of the equation. While 'm not sure how much of the current "Global Warming" is attributable to man, we definitely have a negative impact on air and water quality.

With the rate we are destroying this world it won't be long before something drastic will need to happen. Governments may even start a war just to cull the population. When is the last time you saw a sign saying that any fresh fish was safe to eat for pregnant women? I've been in waters in MA. that make your skin feel grubby when you get out.

Statistics.

What do you suppose that same set of facts would have told you 30 years ago? 50 years?

What do you suppose they will say in another 20?

Too many of the wrong kind of people also. (JMHO)

It reminds me of an old saying "Figures don't lie, but liers figure."

Well, Zit..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wont bother going into a rant here.....Simply because I dont feel it deserves it and I'd be wasting my typing... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Anyhow, I do have a question or two for you... Where do you live? Is it in a populated area or not? Do you live in Hong Kong or Paris to verify the quality of life in those densities? I put very little faith in that article, its likely dirrived from someone "researching" from their couch..

I do question the origin of AIDs, but I'm not getting riled up about it either... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No doubt you could fit a lot of people shoulder to shoulder on this planet.Bottom line is there is a point in which we are going to 'overgraze'.A lot of land is not suitable for living, like mountains, deserts, and arctic regions. It also takes a considerable amount of farm land to keep these people fed.Takes a lot of fresh water, and concrete and the ability to control waste. This planet also needs forest and wildlife to keep things in check.I would rather not live to close to the fine line, once its breeched you get third world conditions.I think we are in store for a change in lifestyles in the future. The rate we can populate earth is also very dependant on the medical/science feild. When we pass them up or they fissle out we got probs.I dont have a answer of how many can live here, but its a little more complicated than just standing them up in texas,I think.Chances of the human race ever being wiped out is VERY slim, but the chance that more and more people live like etheopians in the near future isnt so slim, add a climate change(irratic weather) and it only speeds things up.
