Yep, my first power mower, with a Clinton engine, and the first outboard motors I used had the same kind of pull starter. )</font>

Bird do you remember the old maytag gasoline engine powered clothes washers and how you started them ?
You should - you were born the same year i was.

The worst POS that I ever "owned" was a 1990 Ford Taurus. This vehicle was a company car. I would have never bought the car myself. Well, the problem was 4 transmissions in 36,000 miles (8,800, 26,000, 26,100, 36,000). I left it for dead on Route 35 in West Virginia. The nearest Ford dealer came and got it. It went back on Lemon Law.

That having been said, the BEST piece of equipment that I ever owned is my 1997 Ford F250 HD with the Powerstroke. The vehicle has 207,000 miles and still going REAL strong. I expect it to run another 200,000 miles before I retire it to the farm. This vehicle has lived a HARD life including log skidding duties.

The second best piece of equipment is my 1969 Mustang. Great car! 215,000 miles before I parked it for an eventual rebuild.

I am a Ford man, but there is one caveat. Only buy V8 and rear wheel drive vehicles! Everything else I consider JUNK.

L.B., I've heard some about the old gasoline powered washing machines, but have never seen one in use, and I think I heard sometime in the past that they had a kick starter, but I'm not sure of that.

*They had a pedal that you pushed down with the ball of your foot.
I remember the one my parents had when I was 3 years old or younger.

We used to have a gasoline powered ringer washing machine. Can't remember how it started. But do remember the kick staters.

All in the days before a power line made it to the farm.

Yep Bird, a kick starter, but no handlebars /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I actually remember starting one, and I started one a few months ago too. Still use them here in KY /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Just kidding, but a friend has one in good order.

Worst piece of anything I ever had was a Datsun King Cab 4 wheel drive pickup. I can't remember the model, but I know it was the last year before they became Nissan. It wasn't any fault of the truck.. it was just wore slap out even before I got it.

It would not keep a clutch. Something else was wrong with it somewhere. I would put one in it and it would eat it again within 15k miles. It would get so bad that I could pull up to a speed bump and gently ease the clutch pedal out and it wouldn't even stall out.. it would just slip.

***Long story but pretty funny***
I should put this in the safety forum just for laughs, but the clutch thing saved my life one day. The gear shift gates were so worn out that you could wiggle the gear shift 4-5 inches in any direction when in gear. Well I was working at a manufacturing facility in maintenance for a while. We were there on a saturday when no one else was there and I had a fork truck stall with a dead battery way back in the back of the huge plant. I drove my truck through the plant back to the fork lift to use it to jump start the fork truck. I wasn't thinking and shut the engine off when I got out. The fork truck was in front and to the left of my truck. I hooked up the jumper cable and walked back and opened the door to my truck and leaned in a wiggled the gear shift to see if it was in neutral. I thought it was but it actually wasn't. I hit the starter and the thing took off (did I mention it idled wildly fast?). When it took off moving the door that was open hit the fork lift as the truck was trying to move past and pinched my legs in between the door and the body of the truck. Luckily the clutch slipped and didn't let it lug all the way through, probably taking my legs off. I was able to lean back and cut the truck off and then roll the truck back to get out. It still hurt pretty darn bad even with the slipping clutch.

The worse mower was a MTD Yardman 22hp 54in cut. I had a big grin on my face the day I replaced it.

The worse auto was a late 70s or early 80s (I have tryed to blank that POS out) Nissan 280ZX turbo. 2 new turbos in 4000 miles. I will not own another Jap crap because of it.
