Worst Job EVER For My Tractor...

I had the same sad task this past April when my 14 1/2 yr lab passed.
She was my best friend and was there through thick and thin no matter how hard it was for her. At least I can still visit her.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I know my time will come to do the same chore again. I've done it for three cats and the dog is in ill health. The Doc says he should not have lived this long with all of his issues. But we live one day at a time now. There will never be a replacement, but maybe a diversion.

Sorry for your loss.
I've been there several times myself. You'll always remember, but the pain does ease some with time.

Just a suggestion.......wait a while before getting another dog. The mourning must be over before another can come in.

RIP Shadow Pup. <_____________________>

As my friend said when he laid his faithful Buddy (dog) to rest.."I rather get kick couple times in the twins,it doesn't hurt as much than losing my Buddy"

Does anyone know if it is better to shield the other dogs from the burial site at the time of internment or to allow the other dogs to be around when your friend is inserted and covered over.

The trick is to show the ailing dog the hole in the ground before using it.

(I hesitated to post this because I don't know if it's creepy, funny, interesting, or what...)

My neighbor asked me to bring up the BX24 up and dig a hole for their Jack Russel. Poor dude way way past his time, and obviously miserable. It was time for that last ride to the vet.

I had finished digging and gone home when I got a call from the folks up the hill. They were about to head to the vet's office, and were out inspecting the hole. For some reason, the dog in question dragged himself out near the hole and saw it. He popped up and started running around like a puppy.

That lasted a couple of months, before the inevitable finally happened. Go figure...

@ the OP, sorry for your loss. I guess this is why I don't keep pets.

It seems like the dog actually recognized the hole for what it was...his final resting place. Was his new found vitality a response to show he didn't want to be there? I think I read somewhere that wild animals will ignore pain so they aren't seen as one of the weak ones predators go after. Could it have been this instinctive behavior that he reverted to to show his "pack" he was still virile an effort to stave off the day he would be buried? Or, is it just anthropomorphism?

Wow!!!!

That is the only way to describe the heartfelt posts that the members on this forum posted. I posted on my Facebook wall the evening my dog was put to rest. Then the next morning I decided to post on here because I know some people that own tractors also have pets and know the unconditional love they give. I was BLOWN away by the number of responses and how thoughtful everyone has been. Seems others know just how it feels and others know what is coming. I had a feeling this would be coming soon...just not this soon.
He had an enlarged cancerous tumor that busted and caused his back legs to stop working. He greeted me first, then with a look of panic, moved to the front door where his legs finally stopped working. When he fell, he knocked an ironing board over. I laid on the floor with him till my wife came home from work (I called her). He wagged his tail as I stroked his head and spoke to him. He could wag his tail less and less. Then we carried him stretcher style to the back seat of my truck and took him to the vet. He layed his head on my lap for the trip. Our vet that has been seeing him since a pup gave me the news and after a heartfelt goodbye, did the deed.
He went out honorably for all his faithful service. He would bring groceries in the house, get my slippers no matter where they were in the house, get the telephone and bring it to me, bring the TV remote to me when he saw me sit in my recliner, and even brought me tools when working under a vehicle. Some would not believe me, but when they saw him do it, their jaws dropped!!
I have wonderful memories that I hold in my heart.

THANK YOU all again for yor comments, serious and funny all the same. One thing I could not get him to do was ride on the tractor with me. He finally rode in the front loader, and my wife and daughter smiled as we laid him to rest because of that....

Here are a couple more pictures for all to enjoy!
