Woud you buy an Allis?

The A-C 175 is a fantastic tractor. My uncles still use one daily on their farm. AGCO carries the Heritage line of parts, which covers all the major A-C components and aftermarket parts for what AGCO doesn't carry are readily available. I personally have a 1958 A-C D14 and it runs like the day it was new after 53 years. Allis-Chalmers made some excellent tractors.

I have an Allis Chalmers 175 Diesel. Great hobby farm tractor! I put brakes and a voltage regulator in last year. No problem getting parts from my AGCO Dealer. If you can purchase one for $3-4000, you are getting a good buy. Biggest negative is difficulty shifting if your PTO attachment does not have an over-riding clutch.

go check Tractorhouse.com. They list Allis for sale, and have some dealers. Also shows the going price.

And that is a BIG tractor

Nothing wrong with allis tractors. So I cant really add to what others have already said.

But I do have to advise you to go look at the 175. I fear you dont really understand just how big it is.

You want a tractor for "mowing, tilling, and plowing". And if you feel a MF135 is about right, that is a 38HP tractor that weighs 3500lbs.

That 175 is a 64HP tractor with a weight of 7800lbs:confused2: And I am not really sure if you are going to want a tractor THAT big or not. It is going to depend on your property, what type of tilling/mowing you have to do.

Bigger is always better, right?

That was kinda my point...for about the price that most folks are asking for smaller tractors theres a bigger one with more HP that's available locally. It's a Perkins diesel but I havent seen it or called to get details like hours, condition, etc.

Sounds like the consensus is that I shouldn't let the brand influence my decision.

Yes and no on the brand, Allis Chalmers has a good parts following still. Oliver and White do to, and most of the tractors from that era were built in a manner to last a long time so there is a good parts following. Oliver, White and Allis Chalmers parts can all be had by your local Agco dealer, as well as Minneapolis Moline (which some tractors were made by Oliver, MM and Oliver were purchased by White in the 60's).

So it looks like no matter what color of that era, either; New Holland, Case IH, John Deere or Agco will have parts.
