Would JB Weld work to secure a pulley to hydraulic pump shaft?

The pump is on my little home made towable backhoe. While back filling the hole I had dug for a burn pit.

The pump shaft starting slipping whenever a cylinder would be fully extended while I had the valve lever in the full open position.

As long as the fluid was not flowing to one of the cylinders at full extend the pump would stop slipping.

When it started slipping. I thought oh "sh*t not the pulley again. I thought the JB Weld had given way. But nope pulley is still stuck solid to the shaft.

It's just the shaft. I wonder if something broke inside the pump? It does still pump fluid.

Or maybe a gear stripped? I can't tear into it until get the star socket set.

As to the keyed shaft. I think it must have had one before. But I'm sure this pump has been rebuilt at one time. And the person rebuilding it might have put in a non keyed shaft.

I bought it off ebay and it said it was a new pump. But when I got it. It showed signs of rebuilding.

I'll just buy another pump with a keyed shaft later and use some jaw couplers and direct drive it.

I guess I'll use the pump like it is for now and if I do blow the pump or make the pump worse. I can always use parts from my other pump with a blown seal and rebuild this one.

Tack welding would be my last choice. Get a pully with two set screws 90 degrees apart or drill and tap another hole. You can also stack set screws if the hole is deep enough. Run one down tight on the shaft the run another in on top of that one. The drilled dimple in the shaft also works well.

My aluminum pulley keeps coming loose and sliding down the pump shaft and seems to always come off. I keep tightening the set screw but it always backs out.

Do you think I could mix some JB Weld up and apply it to the shaft and pulley and make a secure bond so the pulley won't come loose?

Thanks

Chad

Yes. For a while any way.

Why not just use some locktite to keep the screw from backing out?

2 things. One, you need a flat spot on the shaft for the set screw to set to. They aren't designed to work on a round shaft, there has to be a flat. You can grind a flat with an angel grinder or even a file it the shaft is soft enough.

The reason it slips is because you have no relief valve in the system, or it's too tight to relieve. You lock the valve open and hit the end of the cylinder, something has to give. That's the relief valve.
