Would my 5045D be quieter with side exhaust?

I know this is probably a strange question but...

My old Massy MF150 diesel has side (horizontal) exhaust. It dumps toward the ground behind the axle. I never thought it was quiet until I got my 2009 5045D. That sucker is loud in comparison. I just found out that JD offers an optional side exhaust kit. Would this quiet things down a bit?

JD tractors tend to have a prominent knock sound to the engine, if they are JD built motors. The JD's that use Yanmars are considerably quieter. I am not sure if the JD engines are really louder by decibels but the quality of the noise is more noticeable. This knock characteristic seems to be present on the larger CUTs and utility tractors. I don't notice it on the larger ag tractors.

The 4x20 CUTs have the option of a vertical exhaust rather then the standard low exhaust which exits by the front of the engine. I do not notice a difference in the engine noise. The noise seems to come from the engine and not the exhaust. I dont think the direction of the exhaust will have much of an effect on the sound you hear.

The engine of my JD 4520 seems much more noticeable than my CASE-IH 245 and 125 which have 245 hp and 125 hp. I previously owned a JD 5300 and the engine noise of that tractor was just like the JD 4520.

Any idea where the JD side exhaust kit dumps? If I could run it out near the rear axle I'd consider it...

I have a 5105 with vertical exhaust and a neighbor with a 5205 with horizontal exhaust. The horizontal exhaust exits under the step on the left side of the tractor as you sit on it. My ROPS does not fold. I thought about swapping to a horizontal mount to protect the exhaust, but I can't go under anything lower than the ROPS anyway. So far I have not bent my vertical exhaust while working in the woods, however I notice the neighbors is bent. Must have run over something that popped up and hit. We have a Ford 4000 with horizontal exhaust to the rear. We have had it torn loose several times while working in debris.
