Would this make a good carryall??

Hi All,

I don't really need a FEL for the jobs I have, but I really could do with something that I could quickly put on the 3ph that would allow me to lift and carry some stuff.
I was wondering you think one of these silage grabs would be suitable if adapted to fit onto the rear linkage?
I think with the grapple and if used with a hydraulic top link it could be pretty mean/useful. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think it would be a waste of a perfectly good and expensive grapple. A carryall made for the 3point is cheap. Personally I would use the grapple as a grapple on the front and buy or make a carryall for the rear. Just my opinion.

I would make my adapter to add 12in or so to have room for brush to clear tires. I think that not having a loader this would be verry useful.

I agree with jjcc and frank. I have 2 what you call carryalls - link boxes to us this side of the pond. One bought, and cheaply as you have been advised, solid floor and a removable rear door; very slightly sloped scraper effect rear end - did a very clean muck removal job in a concrete floored byre today. The other I made myself (even cheaper) slatted floor, same rear scraper, and mainly used for picking up windrowed stones to date. A 2 legged subsoiler is in the pipeline to be attached to this one. Keep the grapple for special jobs, but do not spoil it by using it for jobs that are better done by a cheap box. Old McDonald.

I was thinking of just adapting it so it could also be used for carrying other stuff while the grapple would help hold it in place!

Hi OldMcDonald. Yep they're called link boxes over here as well. I've got one already, but really fancy having something that would be capable of handling piles of brush/compost unattended, i.e a rear linkage mounted grapple. I thought that if I used a hydraulic top link it would also be better as I could alter the angle much better.
I also thought that I could add the facility to attach a removeable boom pole to enable items to be picked up and moved around.
I could just get a FEL, but the use I would have for it doesn't justify the equivalent of $2500 it would take to one.

Maybe I asked the question the wrong way.
Maybe I should have asked whether a grapple could make a good multipurpose tool?

People here make "baskets", as we call them here, from angle steel (L 50x50x5mm), wooden bottom and door on rear side. Sides can be either from boards, extruded metal or net. Some of them put casters on the bottom to easier attach to 3 ph.
