I had a 48 farmall cub and the engine oil looked like thick molasses mixed with tar when I got it. I changed it and filter and it got to the point where it looked clean. The engine was fine through it all!

Pull an oil scan on it if you have doubts and buy it if the oil scan shows good.

Yes, yes and yes. I use Blackstone Labs on my stuff. I wouldn't purchase any used tractor without a lab analysis, it would be the best twenty five dollars you ever spent. It will show wear metals in the oil, contaminants present due to bad air filtration and viscosity information on the oil which tells you if it was still capable of doing its job as well as presence of fuel and or water in the crankcase. Glycol in the crankcase is an engine killer.

So he missed the 50 hour oil change and once a 100 hours there after. I would be afraid of it. Look down inside the oil cap with a flashlight and see what it looks like.

I wonder what the oil change interval is on a Kubota on a reefer unit?

LOL good point on reefer units. I believe ours had oil changes every year or every other year whether they needed it or not :D . They ran about 80hrs a week for 6 months and about 40 a week for the other 6. Talk about a hard life.

How do you get enough oil out to do the lab work without giving the guy an oil change? How much oil do you need?

About 2 or 3 ounces is all you pull out of the dipstick hole.

Pull the drain plug and let a little out then stick it back in real quick.

OK, I like the above idea but how do I get 2 or three ounces out of the dipstick hole?.

This would work as long as I don't screw it up.

Thanks for the info.

Again, without knowing how long the oil has been run in the machine, an oil analysis is useless.

Thanks for the info.

The oil analysis kit has a squeeze bottle and tube in it. And detailed instructions. Just pick up a kit at a kubota dealer.
