that's about equivalent to 65,000 miles on a car. Would that stop you from driving a well maintained car?
I'm driving a poorly maintained truck with 222,500 miles.

Guy local has a BX 2200 with 1700hrs for sale with loader mower and attachments for a very good price. Pictures look great. Only problem is that it's 1700hrs. He explains that he's owner it since new and has performed all scheduled maintenance according to manual, even points out what will be due at 1800hrs.

Would you be turned off by this many hours or would that fact that it was well maintained work for you?

Probably not, as long as the price is very low. 7-8k is typical for a BX2200 w/ bucket @ ~600-700 hours. The steering lines have already blown up - probably twice, so you should be good to go for a while at least.

I figure the average speed of a car is about 40mph. 60 and over some times, but mostly lower than 40, considering starting stopping and around town stuff....for the average car.

Maybe a car. It's a lot lower for my pickup. I wish I had an hour meter for it. 50 mph is the highest speed limit on the roads I usually drive.

I would not be concerned w/ the hours. Test the machine as much as you can and if no issues pop up in 20 minutes of use, hand the man a check!

I have a Kubota D950 engine in a Cushman Turf Truckster which has 9000 hours on the clock ( & the clock is stopped!). I bought it as a non runner some 4 years ago & it sat in a wet field under a tarp for 2 1/2 years until I got a round tuit. Got it running without too much trouble then changed oil & filter, fitted a fuel filter (there was only a simple inline filter on it when I got it, & no air filter). I was surprised to get her running so easily, but 30 seconds of heat & it starts instantly & runs without smoke or knocking.
That's 9000+ hours of commercial groundsman's use (& these blokes are even worse that stock farmers with equipment!), yet still it runs well. Kubotas rock!

The same engine used in BX's is used in industrial applications such as generators, portable lighting units, etc., where it's not uncommon for those engines to rack up 10,000 hours and more. The key is sensible operation and good maintenance. The other critical - and costly to replace - component is the HST drivetrain. The HST's are also quite reliable, but the same factors apply to keeping one healthy for the long term.

The rest of the tractor is just like any other tractor... hoses, bearings, seals, mechanical parts, etc., all wear out with use. Repair/replace as needed to keep the unit running.

ive worked on light plants for years that use these engines, or a variation of. 1700 is just broken in. i have one in my yard right now with at least 18900 hours on it. runs great, starts right up. kubota builds a very durable engine

My '13 Silverado does have an hourmeter. With 37.7Kmiles on it, it has 1178 hours run time on the engine.
