I have a wood fence at our city property and a few years ago while searching Craigslist, there was a fence supply business that advertised they did not stock any cedar pickets, only pine pickets direct from Brazil or some foreign country. They argued that as long as the wood was treated or stained it would last just as long as cedar at a much lesser cost. It is a few years later now and that same company only sells cedar pickets. I can't help but notice some fences in the area that have boards twisting all over the place and are fairly new fences. They also had an add up the last I saw that advertised really cheap fence panels made entirely from culled material. They said this perfect for landlords or homeowners that cant afford a fence but are being forced by HOA's and cities to put up new ones.
