I know a few farmers that have/had Gehl and 1 had a forage harvester that was only a couple of years old when gehl dropped the farm line, a few others have mowers and parts are not easy to get. The guy with the forage harvester had to get a different machine due to parts, and his that was in very good shape was worthless as a trade. I would look for a good used New Holland, tons of them out there and easy to get parts for.
Some parts are very easy, bearings, sprockets, chains (universal). Others, wear plates, rollers, cutter bars, guards used to have after market sources. From what I have been told, they are not easy to find any more either for Gehl.
I've worked with Gehl, New Holland, and Deere, and there are a lot of parts that are not universal. They may look similar, but they are all a little different.
As far as adapting parts, do you have the time? Even if you did have time it may never work right and be a larger pain than it's worth.
