Would you cash a check for one cent?

That's what Progressive just sent me for a premium refund. They wouldn't allow me to add my snowsled to my ATV policy so I had to open a new one. Now I am a "multiple Policy Holder" with them, saving myself a penny. It cost them a lot more than that just to process and mail it, but no doubt they have laws to follow.


PS; I would and will cash it, the next time that I go to the bank.

I opened a college savings account at T. D Ameritrade about 20 years ago. Daughter graduate from college six years ago. Account had .01 cent in it after I made the last tuition payment. Tried to close the account, but they said I was not authorized???
They have been mailing me statements for the last six years because I was not authorized to close the account. Wonder how much that one cent cost them.

OP, I would deposit the check on the next bank run.

I received a check for 10 cents once as an overpayment from the phone company on an account I recently closed...

I endorsed and put pay to the order of the phone company and deducted the 10 cents with my check when I paid my next monthly statement...

Then I got a letter saying they do not accept third party checks... and I sent it back.

I then returned it saying please name the third party... as the only parties I am aware of is myself and you the phone company...

I did eventually see the credit...

Way back I was reading of a crafty accountant that had irregularities of less than $1 dollar credited to a special account in his name... he embezzled and got away with it for a very long time... those pennies added up to tens of thousands of dollars...

Maybe if the bank teller was cute. Otherwise I’d toss it because it’ll take more than 1cent of effort to cash. Personally I hate checks especially from individuals.
