Would you feel comfortable operating this skid steer???

We had an older Case 1845c. If you had the engine RPMS too high, it was very easy to end up riding a bucking bronco. Probably due to a bit of slop in the controls. The only way (well easiest( was to take your hands off the control and throttle down.

Personally, I wouldn't get into one without a seatbelt.

Here in europe the skid steer is on it return, the 4wd articulated mini loader wins hands down. Longer wheelbase so a lot smoother ride, easy to get on and off and no skidmarks on the pavement or in the lawn. And off course no need for a cage because you sit behind the loader, instead of inbetween.

. I've never seen a tractor with loader behave like that.

then you've not run one long enough.. or run one bad enough. or seen one run bad enough. unfortunately, machine type does not seem to limit how bad some operastors can be. stick them on a 50k$ paylaoder and they can ruin that in 15 m and then hurt themselves. ever seen a guy get thrown off the front of a bulldozer? I have. amazed me too!

no magic on a tractor. have a heavy load lifted high in a loader and zoom ut over a lumpy field and you get teeter totter.

mind you.. all the examples you state sound like 'bad operator-itis'

It's for sale on a local craigslist. I personally wouldn't get near it with a 20ft pole.

If I only had to do it for a couple of minutes, I could, but I doubt I could trust my concentration enough to keep my arms attached after that.

Well, we were originally talking about a skid steer after all, not a myriad of other types of machines weren't we? The OP's question was "Would you feel comfortable operating this skid steer???" and I answered it as if it were I myself operating it. Since I am inexperienced on one my answer reflected that. I can easily control the bucket but operating the machine so it doesn't start bucking is another different issue and as at least one other poster has said, not limited to just me. A skid steer seems to be the easiest machine for an inexperienced operator with which to start an unwanted bucking action on too by quite a margin. Your other examples of a wheel loader and bulldozer helps make my point that a seat belt is a desirable option.

Yes, I would feel comfortable operating it.

It all depends on what you are used to, and being careful.

I have been using this machine for 8 years, never been hurt on it.

The put together thread: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/customization/272163-fel-toro-groundsmaster-put-together.html

Guess that must make it ok and right to use then?

Check for blood stains and body parts the previous operator lost. You don't want to be exposed to a bio hazard during your wreck.

That one was most likely used in a poultry barn. Here its not uncommon to see a newer loader with the cab chopped off or lowered a bit. Its all how it was used. Ive used an old Erickson/Ford skid steer in one poultry house that had no sides or roof. The owner had to have it removed to get the sides of the barn and walls. Most of the newer poultry barn loaders left the side panels intact. I used to buy the old loaders when they came for sale and we built new cages for them.
Even my 2000 and 1996 1840 Case loaders will give you a lap full of material in a special case with a full cab.

Yep, I can also ride a bicycle without helmet, elbow pads, knee pads & gasp, without spandex.

Well, we were originally talking about a skid steer .

YOU were the one that then took the conversation over to tractors.

No rops.. No seatbelt.

getting crushed is no fun. being trapped and crushed is less fun.
