Don't forget to get a boundary survey done if the fence is along the edge of your property.

How quickly do you need the fence done? If you take your time and make sure of your holes, it's just a matter of doing them one at a time. The hardest part is getting each hole lined up in a straight line. Drilling the hole where you want it doesn't actually happen with a 3pt post hole digger. They don't go down straight and if you hit a rock or root while going down, your hole will move because of that. I use a 12 auger and figure that half of the holes that I drill will need some adjusting with my clamshell digger. Some holes take more then others to adjust!!!!

I less then a thousand feet to go on my front pasture and just work on it when I get the urge. I'm in no rush, so it's not a big deal. I can do ten holes and call it a day, or I can do more. My expense is the materials, so that dictates how much I get done more then anything else. It's all cash, no debt, so no worries.

digging 240 holes, and getting an aluminum fence up that looks proper.eric
I'd like to see sample of fencing on linked site you have in mind.

I did commercial fencing for several years, and Bobcat with auger was the quickest and painless process. In ten foot on center.

The other option is air hammer them in if it's a chain link type.
The hammer is about 60 - 80 lbs, placed on end of pipe, squeeze of trigger, and it's in 3 feet. This was done for miles along roadways.

Eric: If you need a PHD you can borrow mine. If your not inclined to do the digging yourself, there is a guy in our area with a small IH cub with a PHD on the back who travels around and will drill holes for about $7 per hole. My son used him a couple years ago and I think he has discounts if you have over 50 holes.

If you are interested in either just get me a message.

When I bought my new home, I too had dogs. I fenced approx 650 feet with split rail fence and then wired the inside with green wire. At that time I did not have my BX24, so I rented a John Deere Tractor with a post hole digger. Together with the tractor and some sweat equity, I put up the fence in about a week. It is now going on 13 yrs and doing fine.

I would say you certainly can fence that size property for your dogs. With a post hole digger, the rest is pretty straight forward. Of course, I had to tamp each post. I was sure alot stronger when I finished the project. :)
