Okay, so I cut through 8' tall brush with a 4' King Kutter rotary cutter and a 15hp Shibaura. No guard on the front. Most rough cut mowers do not have a guard on the front.
Power that cutter up with your Oliver. If it spins without much vibration, you're good to go.

well ... i kinda sold the Oliver today. Probably should have tried out the bush hog before I did, because now I need to decide whether to finance a bush hog if I buy a new tractor, or use what I have, and I no longer have a tractor to try out what I have.
I have been looking at used tractors too but it doesn’t seem like you save enough money on CUTs and SCUTs to make going used sensible, unless you get lucky and find a great deal.

I would use it. Make sure to check the gear box grease before spinning it up.

For sure - lift it up - clean it up - change oil in the gear box - give it a try on your new tractor.
BTW - I welcome another "dry sider" to TBN & the forum.
For sure - good luck on trying to find any type of used tractor in this neck of the woods. Other than some 450hp monster from the wheat fields.

5’ running hogs in decent condition go for 500-800 here (more of course if you want like-new). Not chump change but shouldn’t break the bank. And if you want to buy you a used tractor many/most come with serviceable shredders.

As other already said for checking also try remove the blade before attaching to tractor maybe add little anti size to threads.

Amber Lake is gorgeous out. I love it out here, moved out from the DC area about a decade ago. I miss my family back east but I don't know if I could ever go back to the I-95 corridor. Never thought I'd own a tractor but the more I check them out the cooler they seem!
