Most people are pretty appreciative of help. To me a thank you is enough. More than that, what ever it is, is really nice.
I keep a lot of trails and woods roads open in our woods. We like to ski and I do some logging. We have a 70 year old neighbor who uses the trails to ride her horse on. Last fall, out of the blue, she gave me a card with a picture of her on the horse in our woods. There was also a $100 gas card. It said thanks for keeping your trails trimmed so nice. Here is some gas money for your saw. Pretty neat.

I miss the days when I was about 18 or 20 and my grand father still lugged wood into his house every evening for the night. I would leave work and go straight to his house and lug all the wood they (grandpa and grandma) would need for the night. And they would ask me if I wanted to eat supper with them. I really enjoyed doing that for them. I need to find a neighbor who needs my help so I can get that old feeling back again! =0)

I have a selfish reason for helping out in my neighborhood with my tractor... being helpful can avoid a lot of problems...
Case in point... my new neighbor that has a commanding view of my property came over to ask what I was doing with my backhoe and attachments... why I needed them? I live in the city.
Anyway he is 82 and my 80 year neighbor up the road was helping him with a gate that had a gap big enough for his dogs to go under... neighbor up the street came over and asked if a could spare a couple of yards of dirt/gravel to build up the grade...
I did and started up the tractor and delivered about 5 yards... new neighbor came over over later with a bag of peaches and commented on how glad he was I own a tractor!
