Mine also leaked in the line to the cylinder. made a mess under the tractor, all over the mower deck.

To answer the other question, you do NOT need to drain the fluid. Fluid loss is minimal, mostly what is in the hoses. I also strongly recommend replacing all 4. I went to the local Parker store (most metro areas have them) and they can make up any hose on the tractor. One of my steering hoses had a funny end, I believe it was a 45 deg swivel, which was not in stock. I got a straight end on the hose and bought a 45 deg M>F swivel to solve the problem. Also as I mentioned in another post, you can unbolt a bracket and drop the steering cylinder to get to the connections without any special tools.

I would get tractor to a good work area. Remove mowing deck , battery and floor pan. Pressure wash everything. If using good quality hoses get them made 1 inch longer than factory.

Done! 4.5 hour job (rear hoses only) with all of the parts and tools ready. Taking the floorpan off was imperative. I saved a lot of time by giving up early on trying to do it with the floor on. I also removed the left rear wheel. and the seat of course. The battery was relocated but left attached. That made the fittings up there VERY easy. I used OEM hoses. Didn't want to deal with the heavy duty stuff. I got 13 years out of the OEMs. Also I didn't want to delay the job locating a source.

I changed the filter and drained all the hydro fluid because I figured it'd be a PITA to figure out how much to add back unless I added all 2.7 gallons back. That dip stick and that fluid is impossible for me to see, Too clear and thin.

Thanks for all your help and advice everyone! I'll save this thread and surface it when my front lines go! lol .... No way I wanted to deal with them today too. They'll be easy since I won't need to pull the floor pan out.

Don't forget to follow the Kubota maintenance schedule. You get to do it all over again in two years. After all, you wouldn't let the oil go for 13 years for example! :D

Maybe I'll feel ambitious and do it before it blows. But I doubt it. I do my fluids though. In fact my hydro was done just 2 years ago. I think that was the 250 hr service or something... If they want the hydro lines changed preventatively every 2 years, they'd have been better off putting them on the outside of the frame rail where you can get them. That was ridiculous. Even if they'd have placed that brace a little further forward so you could get a wrench in. It's a shame really. Piss poor design element in my opinion.
