WR Long vs Titan Tooth Bar

Looking to get a tooth bar for my Kubota L4400 w/ 6' bucket. Not interested in a Piranha.

The Titan bar is heavier, has 7 teeth but does not look as well made in the photos as the WR Long. It weighs 99 pounds.

The WR Long appears significantly better made. The bar is beveled. The welds look better. It has 8 teeth. It weighs 70 pounds.

Both come with free shipping. Both made in USA. Here is the catch: The Titan is $189. The WR Long is $423. That is a huge price difference. I understand that the Titan may have cheaper teeth, cheaper welds and maybe even lower quality steel....but it is 30 pounds heavier even with one less tooth....and less than HALF the price.

Would love to hear some thoughts and some experience folks may have with these. I'm leaning toward the WR Long just because I know I will abuse the heck out of this thing and want it to hold up.

I'm curious... why don't you want a Piranha tooth bar?

First, I don't need anything for cutting through brush. Second, with my clay I need actual teeth. Third, a lot of what I will be doing with the 'teeth' is moving brush and small logs after a recent timber thinning. So longer teeth will be better for the type of 'raking' and gathering I need to do. Finally I'm not sure what it is supposed to do other than cut through brush. I realize it presents less surface area to help with digging (which is the primary purpose of any type of teeth) but actual teeth will present a more concentrated surface area for breaking hard soil. I do not intend this post as a discussion on the merits of the Piranha, but it has pretty much run its course so feel free if you wish but I have made my mind up now for the WR Long tooth bar.

I know you are not talking to me but here are my reasons... :2cents: I hook a chain to my teeth to pick up objects all the time, you can not do that with a Piranha. I pick out single rocks with the outside tooth to extract the rock without tearing up the whole area. Lastly, and this is little unique to me, is the tooth bar helps with holding crap with my grapple. I can pick up most of my attachments with just the center tooth inserted where the top link goes and clamping it down with the grapple.

It's a different tool! By the way, tooth bar sucks at cutting brush at ground level!

Hey it's a free country. No problem! (0: Everyone likes different things and has different uses for equipment.

I have two Piranha's... one on a 6' bucket and one on the 60" bucket in the pic. Two different tractors. They work excellent for doing cutting into sod, ripping out bushes and digging in dirt. They are also excellent at back dragging. I never take them off.

My friend has a Long tooth bar on this L39 Backhoe. He hates it. Terrible for back dragging. I have run it too... it works good for digging but no good for back dragging... and I think the Piranha digs better.

Why would the tooth bar be bad for back dragging? I'm not talking about dirt, I'm talking about branches and logging debris.

I think the tooth bar will be better than the Piranha for digging in my clay, which is usually more like concrete and laced with rocks. But I could be totally wrong.

Also, serious back dragging (lifting front tires off the ground) should use the heal (backside) of the bucket. You can bend your curl cylinders using the front tip of the bucket. If you are just lightly dragging or raking, no problem.

I purchased a tooth-bar from Markum Welding(don't think they are still in business) in 2009 and paid $369 for it.Looks like WR Long has taken over for price and quality.I tend to purchase U.S.A made if possible and support our country and people and not China's.
Looks like the Piranha is a "different" tool and may have it's uses but for straight up digging I think a tooth-bar would be superior.

I think I ended up with the best of both worlds,,
my tooth bar is fabricated using the technique that the Piranha uses
but,,
my tooth bar has actual "teeth" like the Titan,,,

The "teeth" are flame cut into a piece of cutting edge.

The tooth bar came from a CAT dealer,, I think it was a skidsteer accessory.
I got it new from CAT,, but there was no name,, etc,, on it.

The bar slips over my existing cutting edge, 2 bolts hold it in the bucket.
Actually, after the tooth bar has been installed for a couple hours of use, I think I could remove the bolts and still use the tooth bar, it would stay on the bucket. I got to hit it about 6 times with an eight pound sledge to get it off the bucket.

Oh, yea,,, I back drag, front drag, dig, pry, and everything else with this tooth bar.

The teeth hangs down below the front of the bucket on his loader. So the bottom is no longer flat.

I back drag with my WR Long tooth bar all the time. I think it is easier and makes a better job with a tooth bar vs just a cutting edge. You can make a flatter surface by exposing the teeth to scarify or groove the area and then hide the teeth to fill the grooves with the loose material.



As far as WR Long vs Titan only you can do the money trade-off but to me that extra tooth is worth a lot when it comes to actually using the teeth to dig, rake, or pick up stuff.
