Wrenches for Christmas (your advice wanted)

I realize it's short notice, but I saw in my local Sears Hardware store that they have the 1/2" drive 6 piece large Craftsman socket sets on sale for around $20, in inch or metric. The inch set went up to 1 1/2" as the largest. This is sockets only, no wrench included, but they are about half the regular price.
