Wrong oil filter - Engine threw a rod

/ Wrong oil filter - Engine threw a rod #11
You don't say in your post how old the machine is. IF it was the wrong filter and IF it stopped the flow of oil I would think the low oil pressure lite/gage would have shown up. Also if the engine was running without oil it should have been making quite a racket. Normally "throwing a rod" means the rod itself breaks and may or may not go thru the engine case. Normally that is caused by too many rpms. Spinning the bearing (the bearing inserts turning in the rod) can be caused by lack of oil, cap bolts not tighten correctly or even too many hours. The only thing too big a filter would cause was if you put the same amount of oil in the engine and didn't recheck the level before starting work. Once the engine is apart you'll know more. But, yes I think if it was the wrong filter, the dealer owes you something.
