You have a neighbor up in Farmersville who just got a big writeup in the Dallas Morning News. (sorry folks, but I think you have to sign up for a free subscription to read the story.)

His name is Jay Silber, and he has a web page. Seems he used to be a geophysicist and IT manager before he turned his boyhood avocation into a vocation. Also, I learned something about wrought iron from reading his web site. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't think I've talked to Jay in seven or eight years. We were both in the NTBA (North Texas Blacksmiths Association) but I've been an intermittant member. The last couple of years I've belonged to the Balcones Forge from the Austin area.

I'm glad to see him out on his own doing it full time. If any of you want the real deal hand forged stuff done in a traditional and concientious way I highly recommend him.

I think most of you would be pleasantly surprised at how economical one can have some genuine hand forged accents for the home and garden can be. You get a much better product and it's got character that can only come from being hand made.

I'm not into making that kind of stuff myself. Character flaw, take today, making a rock star for the gate. I told my wife tonight country's got to be easier. Making a rock star is tough.

Again, if you'd like something hand made by traditional methods give Jay a shot. You won't be disappointed.
