I have finally decided that I NEED a rider for my lawn; I only have about 1/2 acre, but time is limited in my schedule for a self-propelled.

The local JD dealers have me looking at the x300 with a 38" deck. I cannot fit a 42" through my gate.

Anyone have the new x300 series, and do you think $2650 is good buy at this point?
thanks for the help.

I just replaced my LX178 with a X320 with a 48" deck. It is a cutter all right!
My wife usually mows our 2 acres and the new mower takes an hour off the time. I would be quite comfortable using it on a much larger area.

I would guess that you could do quite well with one of the 100 series tractors. Less cost and I doubt you would wear it out on the size yard you are doing. I know that JD has a zero finance on the 300 series and not sure if that is affecting your decision.

If you want a bigger machine, how hard would it be to enlarge the gate?
