I'm not a fan of aftermarket oil filters either. I am a technician at a Chevrolet dealer and see many different oil filters on both cars and trucks. It seems that the factory filters are a much higher quality filter.i have never understood why peaple decide to spend big dollars on there equipment then want to fix it as cheaply as possible with poor quality parts then complain when it brakes again in a short time. It Is much cheaper and easier to fix it right the first time buy using quality factory parts.

The assumption that oem parts are the best is a crock. The are high priced and nothing more. We had brakes put on our GPS Survey K2500 suburban and the Chevy dealer charged us about $2800+. $95 a hour labor and $2300 in parts, new rotors, drums and brake pads. I did some checking and found parts could have come from NAPA for much less, way over a $1000 less. The dealer made $95 hour labor + 40% markup on the parts. The last GM Oil filter I bought for my CTS4 was Made in Mexico.

Thats why people can't afford the dealer.

OEM filters are bid out to the cheapest supplier. GM gets a lot the filters made by Champion Labs, an aftermarket filter supplier that also makes the Supertech filter among other brands.

I agree that dealer prices are rather high. But the old saying of you get what you pay for is o so true. I love when I diagnose a problem with a vehicle and the person throws a fit about the price and says they can get it cheaper at Napa Autozone come pick the vehicle up and it shows back up a 6 months later with the same problem and the aftermarket part they installed has failed. I do agree that some times the aftermarket route may be the better way to go. But those instances are few and far between. I prefer to fix it right the first time not the second or third time and spend twice the money as I would have buying a factory part. As for putting brakes on a 4x4 3/4ton suburban if you are complaining about the price of parts you should take that up with the dealer. After doing many complete brake jobs on these trucks I will not in any way do them with out using quality factory parts due to the amount of back breaking work that it takes to perform this repair correctly. But if you would like to do a 5-6 hour brake job twice you are more than welcome to. In saying all parts are equal in quality is like saying a LA Series JD is the same quality as a X series. I know for a fact that GM asks for bids on there parts from a wide range of companies. But those parts are built to GM specs not the manufacturing companies specs. I tend to believe what my factory GM training has taught me because the real world on the job experience goes along with what I was taught and the facts don't lie.

the facts don't lie.

no, but people do...even people who report facts.

here's the bottom line. Your tractor's engine requires an oil that meets a certain standard, same as the oil filter - look on the packaging, you see something that says "meets or exceeds standards of ....)

good enough for me - I change my oil and filters with whatever's on sale.

I agree. I get my filters and most everything else for the truck from the dealer. Their prices are so competitive that it is not worth the hasdle running aftermarket stufg. I also run a blue filter on my sportsman. :)

You are correct peaple do lie about there products to get peaple to buy them. I'm talking about the real world 10 plus years of shop experience that I'm going by. I don't go on what companies advertise I go with what personal experience shows. For instance Chevrolet has a wonderful oil life monitoring system that tells you when to change the oil. That is the worst possible thing to follow but the factory says it works. It causes severe engine sludge and premature engine failure. I lost count of the oil pans I've taken off where the oil sludge is clogging the drain hole up and intakes I've had off where you can't see the lifters due to oil sludge. I'm just saying what real world experience has taught me. They don't make a Fram or valvoline suburban or x series jd so why would you want to use inferior parts. I don't have to money to replace expensive parts that fail due to sub standard repair habits. But everyone has there own views which I respect and that's what makes the world go around.
