I'm not a fan of aftermarket oil filters either. I am a technician at a Chevrolet dealer and see many different oil filters on both cars and trucks. It seems that the factory filters are a much higher quality filter.i have never understood why peaple decide to spend big dollars on there equipment then want to fix it as cheaply as possible with poor quality parts then complain when it brakes again in a short time. It Is much cheaper and easier to fix it right the first time buy using quality factory parts.
The assumption that oem parts are the best is a crock. The are high priced and nothing more. We had brakes put on our GPS Survey K2500 suburban and the Chevy dealer charged us about $2800+. $95 a hour labor and $2300 in parts, new rotors, drums and brake pads. I did some checking and found parts could have come from NAPA for much less, way over a $1000 less. The dealer made $95 hour labor + 40% markup on the parts. The last GM Oil filter I bought for my CTS4 was Made in Mexico.
Thats why people can't afford the dealer.
OEM filters are bid out to the cheapest supplier. GM gets a lot the filters made by Champion Labs, an aftermarket filter supplier that also makes the Supertech filter among other brands.
