Thicker oil would only effect the hydro function it would not put extra pressure on that part of the case.

Thicker oil would only cause a bit more cavatation at the charge pump, and slight resistance through passages until oil was good and warm. This may wear pump, and other components prematurely. No way it would bust casting I'm sure. Were you using machine in ramming mode for anything? I doubt it, but must ask.

I suspect the age has little to do with it. I have a new X749 which is similar in durability, could have bought the X748 with a loader option but didn't think it was heavy enough. I think heavy work will tear any of these mowers up in short order, best to use them for light duty tasks.

Is it possible to bend the hubs or axles on these? My X475 has a horrible wobble when you drive it on dry pavement. It moves up and down in the rear. I thought it was bent wheels, so I replaced the wheels and tires, and it still down it.
I have tried to put a stick on the hubs as they spin, and they seem perfectly straight, yet it still wobbles when you drive it.
Is it possible the wheels are that bad right from JD? I bought the 26 12 12's that have the gator tires on them. they bite good in snow, and are easy on lawn.[/QUOT

Does it do it at all speeds or just at higher speeds? Try letting out some of the air in the tires, too much can cause bouncing. Let us know if this works.

Ya, and speed, but obviously gets faster as speed increases.

Never tried swapping air pressure.

An update on this:

A new transmission was installed, but I noticed my spontaneous diff lock problems have continued. It seems the brake locks the diff as it's supposed to, but it was not letting the diff go when the brake was disengaged. It seemed to be caused by a washer binding things up. The service guy has just finished installing a little piece of angle that we machined up to be a guide plate and it works so far. He's off to put in an official 'thing' with JD to tell them about it.
