I'm getting ready to do a break-in oil change on my X495, and I was just wondering why it has two oil caps. In the Service Engine section of the owner's manual, it says to "Remove oil filler cap (D) or (E)." If it doesn't matter which one you fill into, why have two in the first place?

I have a feeling that this is a really stupid question and I'll probably figure it out as soon as I submit it, but I'll do it anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I recall, that's a Yanmar industrial engine used in your X495. The two oils caps are to provide access in different applications...such as industrial or marine (Yanmars are used quite a bit in smaller (< 40') sailboats.

Yep, it's a Yanmar.

So I assume that if that engine is used in something like a sailboat, there would be other parts or mounts or frame members in the way of one of the caps? That makes sense; in this way they could make the same engine for more than one target without having to make any changes to it.

Thanks for clearing that up, I had the same question about my X495 which I bought used recently. Marine apps, never would have thought of that.
