Mowing x540 Engine Rev issue

Hello. New to this, I have a X540 for a couple years now with the 47" blower, 48" deck. LIke the way the smaller decks cut. Holgen lights!, large bagger. Problem lately, stopped hard last week and ever since the engine rev's up and down (at idol and during cutting). changed plugs, air filter, gas filter shot some carb fluid, checked fuel cap, no change. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds fuel related, but sounds like you have been pretty thorough on that end.

The X540 I have is liquid cooled. I dont belive the X540 is fuel injection but i could be wrong. Stopped Hard meaning I was trying to beat the rain, going as quick as i could and mis-judged our "moving trees" and had to hit the breaks really hard or hit one. X540 engine almost stalled but recovered. After that, i think is when the problem with the engine surging during idol and during load (mowing).

The X540 is water cooled, and has a carburetor. My guess is your 'hard stop' has somehow disturbed the governor, or possibly caused a vacuum leak in the intake system.

Does the engine idle? If it does not, then the vacuum leak, or carb issue would be the most likely.
