X585 or X595 or 2210 ?????

al3 and all:

Got it. I forgot that the RIO was there. You are right, annoying but not a "problem". I can learn to live with it.

I actually was VERY VERY VERY close to buying the 2210. The dollars are very close, especially when you consider the deals from JD right now. The 2210 offers many great capabilities. I did alot of study on both machines. (thanks to this web site /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) I test drove both tractors and both were great. Long term for the work I need to do, the X is the better choice from a maneuverability standpoint for my "specific" piece of property.

Someday, I will have enough land for a 22XX or a 3XXX series.

For now, the X will be a lot of fun. I got the 50 lb. rear wheels weights, the mulch kit for the deck, and a landscape rake for some small property clean up (branches, weeds, etc.).

In the future I may get a Johnny Bucket for small chores (no real FEL work).

When I get it I will let the group know my impressions.

Thanks
John

Here, hopefully, is a pic of the icing issue. The grey/white material you see at the top of the auger shroud is a big "V" mass of ice. (There is normally a metal guard here which has been removed.) There isn't suppose to be anything there, other than a long slot that allows a pulley to slide back and forth. There is also a black plastic shroud that covers the hyd cylinder on the top side of the deck that has been removed. Wet snow accumulates under the shroud. If its there and the temps drop.....ice block.

As long as its hot, here another icy shot. This one from above. You can see the two pulleys; the one in the upper right is the one that's suppose to slide. Firmly encased.

Last one, wide angle view from the front. Better perspective of pulley that's suppose to slide. Plastic cover/guard removed only for picture/de-icing purposes.

Whou!! Have come up with any mods to alleviate this issue?

Al, although I don't live in Minnesota and my winters are a hair more temperate, I've never had anything resembling that happen -- even in my unheated shed. Also, isn't there supposed to be a shroud/cover that goes over the pulleys, hydraulics, and cables? Perhaps you removed them just for pictures sake?

JDF. Oh yea, black plastic top cover and metal bottom cover were always in place when operating. Think you can see the corner of the top cover in my third picture (left hand side of pic). Can also see outline of cover on right hand side of the deck. And that neat “V” shape of the ice block on the first pic is an exact replica of the inside of the bottom metal shield/ice cube tray.
JJE64. I sent these picture to Deere and they opened a case on the issue, but never came to a resolution. I was suppose to drag the unit, complete with problem 30 miles one way in the dead of winter so the dealership could verify----meanwhile be without a snow removal device. Decided it was easier to fire up the heat gun when needed. That plus a little operator preventative action, i.e., rotating the chute lock to lock prior to shutdown, has minimized the problem .
Personally, I think Deere should consider using me as one of their winter equipment testers. I’ve seen temps below –40 several times this past year, 100+ inches of snow for the past two. And again, don’t take this wrong. I’ve been through two other brands of snow removal units and they all had more significant issues than this.

Your not alone with the snow blower freezing up. I worked for a Deere dealer in Wisconsin, and I went out on plenty of service calls one winter when we got a lot of snow. My best advice to you would be to clean the snow/slush from the mechanism with a blast of compressed air (if you have it). Some winter conditions are difficult to design around. Main thing is not to force it, because replacing the steel cable when in breaks is a real PITA. Bottom line is the Deere snow blower attachment is one of the best on the market. I've seen the 47" two stage really take a beating in commercial applications and keep going for several years. Heck my hometown blew out all the sidewalks with one on a 445, and it lasted several years. I believe they still use the same set up today, only on an X485.

( I looked at that same choice and took a long time to decide. I bought the 2210 and it has been great. I am not using any rear implements at this point - but it is nice to know I can down the road. The mowing deck is great and the loader has so many uses.

X Check your prices carefully - the 2210 is usually cheaper than the x595. )

This is like paying more for an escort than what you could have bought a Lincoln for.
These 2 tractors are in 2 different leagues, the x595 being a mere garden tractor while the 2210 is much high up on the totem pole as a Sub Compact tractor.
