X595 Diesel mysterious quitting

One of the guys on another forum said this.

The JD455 uses a Yanmar diesel. You have an external electric fuel control valve between the tank and the injection pump. Under the seat is a safety switch that is connected to a small IC behind the dash, when that switch thinks no one is on the seat it will signal the IC to turn off the power to the fuel shutoff switch. That same IC is connected to the mower activation control switch, the PTO switch, and if you have a hydraulic option, to that too.

Another said.

Turned out to be a loose connection to the fuel shutoff valve.

I JUST went through the same problem with my GX345. It would be running fine and then just shut off as if I had turned off the key. My dealer told me it could be one of many parts, all totalling about $700. He suggested changing the "OFF TIME DELAY" module, which only cost $19. He said it was the most common cause of that problem, and HE WAS RIGHT. I changed it about 2 weeks ago and haven't had a problem since. The best is it is only about a 10 minute job. Hope this helps

Several weeks ago mowing with my 07 2305 had been mowing 2-3 hrs. it just quit . thought about battery ,cleaned and checked battery checked ok. Then discovered blown 15 amp fuse.. replaced...Changed fuel filter and fuel coming to pump..not up to injectors.. After about 2hrs tractor did start. After parking in building tractor would not restart... Took tractor to dealer he couldn't work on it for maybe 3-4 wks. Asked dealer what he thought fuel solenoid ordered one , took tractor home. Waiting for this to come in did more testing found fuel solenoid OK.. Thought maybe fuel shutoff timer and no dealer had none. So I ordered that... Waiting for above two items to come in, did more testing found a $8.00 diode to be the problem...
So far after 8-10 hrs since replacing diode seems OK
Which you luck..!!!
Yes we had checked under seat switch, neutral switch... I'm just not sure what caused fuse to blow ...but glad tractor is running....

Checked everything I could think of - oil OK, temperature gauge low (winter here), screens clean, coolant in reservoir low (correct level for low temperature engine) and restarted.

I have the X748 and it happened to me this summer, though it was actually hot. But, I'll bring this up anyway. You said you checked the screens, but did you pull the external screen panels off and check the metal one that rests directly in front of the radiator? That's where my problem was. The whole screen was caked with dandelion, dirt, leaves and other miscellaneous junk that made past the outer screens. Just a thought.

Greg
Did you get your X595 running and if so what was the problem?
Thanks

I'm trying to do a little preventative maintenance on my x595 (I think it's an 04- 120 hours). I have never changed the fuel filter and I'm shocked at how hard I'm having to work to get the locking ring loose. Is this normal? It says counterclockwise in the manual but I've gotten at least 1/4 turn and it doesn't seem to be getting any better... Any ideas?

I use a wide blade screwdriver and hammer on the ridges of the ring to gently tap it loose on my 748.

I found that "counterclockwise" instruction a little confusing on my X740 (i think the same filter as yours).
I started by trying to turn it counterclockwise looking down on the filter - WRONG.
They are standard right-hand threads and you turn it counterclockwise looking UP at it (but I need to lie down to look at it that way).

Thanks, that was the problem.. I can't imagine servicing this thing from underneath, but I guess that's how it's written.. Unfortunately, I figured it out after turning just a little too hard. The whole assembly apparently comes with the filter installed for $35.

Sorry you found out the hard way!
Actually, I had to buy one of those filter assemblies last year - one of the fuel hose attachment "barbs" pulled out of the casting. Had to replace the complete assembly.
