X700 series

But have you ever used an x700 series tractor on a slope? They are truly amazing

I had the X748 in for some warranty work and tried to use a GX345 on the slopes. there was no way it would be possible. I slid down to the creek twice and that was enought. I then used a 425 and the same thing happened even with diff locked. the X748 with full time 4wd is great.

How in the world can you mow sideways on a 41% slope? I have a X740 with 2 sets of 50 # wheel weights and fluid in the tires and chains and about 18-20 deg is about all I want to do. Maybe I'm measuring it wrong????

I will mow sideways on the 37 degree and up and down the 41 degree

Or maybe he is measuring it wrong.;)

You may be right, I could be measuring it wrong. I attached a angle gauge to my hood with tape and drove each direction. I stopped several times to get a accurate reading.
The gauge is similar to what the State Road Mower tractors have in them for safety.

150 hours is a lot? That's hardly broke in in my opinion...

;)He isn't talking about the 150 hour tractor he could buy.
:)He means his wifes tractor ----------->> an X748 that she has put 480 hours on this little toy in just two seasons of using it .

Do you X748 owners find it turns just as sharp as the X740? I noticed on the John Deere website the X748 turns a bit less to the right, comparing to the X740 2WD model.

I don't know if the way I did it is accurate. It sounds like you have the better setup for getting a reading. I have been reading different posts on this site where people were talking about taking their tractors on 15 deg angle and not feeling comfortable with it. I thought, what a bunch of wimps. :ashamed: My 740 can go on a lot steeper hill than that sideways, I thought. The hill sure looked to be about 45 degrees. I finally had to find out so I broke out the only thing I could think of to check it easily.

I had a rear blade on my 740 with a long straight edge. Then I took a rafter square and set it on the blade and then took a level and put one side uphill on the blade and the other end on the square where the angles are. The readings to the slope in that method was about is 18-19 deg and no more than 20 deg. If I would go a few more degrees and I may be able to, but I would be sitting on the fender so I wouldn't slide off.
The only thing I could think of, is if I would double it that would be in line with your reading then. I don't know what I actually have right now then.

Hopefully somebody will read this and straighten me out.

A 748 would be able to turn uphill easy where I can't especially when wet, but I was just looking at the roll-over factor. That would be about it for me.

That would be a yes there's an X720 in my signature, they are the the most stable feeling, best riding GT's out there IMO. One bank we have in front of the rented house we have next door is so steep that if someone tries to mow across it they have to keep the front wheels turned quite a bit uphill or it will just slide the front end down the slope. Even though my wife does nearly all the mowing she doesn't like mowing slopes at all and that where she has me do it or usually the neighbor weedeats them for her with our Dolmar trimmer. Not sure if this is the case but many people tend to over estimate the degrees of a slope.

I may be wrong on this but I think a 37 degree angle would amount to a drop of around 36 inches in 4 feet. If your wheels are 48" wide & you jacked one side up 36" that would give you an idea of how steep it would be. I don't think it would tip over as long as you kept most of your body weight to the upper side. I think the center of gravity would be pretty low on a lawn tractor with a deck on it. I would be very careful about the lower wheel hitting a low spot though.

It would be nice if you could have ROPS without buying the Hard or Soft Cab, just my opinion.

The aws is a Rube Goldberg design if you ask me. Why not get a zero turn with a roll bar and a seat belt. You ever use one ? Way faster than any tractor mower. my 2 cents
