Hi all,

Anyone know how much of a difference the carbed vs Fuel Injected would be for fuel economy? I know that the X750 would be better, but its even more money.

Thanks
Dave

I've not witnessed a big difference between the carb and fuel injected as far as fuel consumption goes... and think if anything, the fuel injected drinks more. But have no good way to measure.
Have had 425's, against the 445 and the X485

World of difference running the diesel 455... forget about adding fuel too often.. :)

We have an X720, fuel injected, and I can tell you this when mowing with a 54" deck it burns more than a gallon of gas an hour. It burns more fuel than the L3940 diesel tractor, about .75 gallons/hour. I tried my best to get my wife to buy the diesel but she wouldn't do it.

I've owned a carbed 425 and now an X739, plus I have a diesel Kioti. It's hard to judge on fuel consumption between my 2 JD's. The X739 seems to use more fuel, but it also pushes 5 more HP. However, the difference is just a slight perception. As for diesel, yes they do sip fuel. But you'll never (maybe in 40 years) make up the fuel savings to offset the cost of the diesel. The diesel is convenient in far fewer stops for refueling. But for most except for a commercial user, this is inconsequential. Get the diesel if "macho" is important, or if you need the torque (like tilling and very heavy snow blowing). One advantage of the fuel injection is that it is less susceptible to ethanol damage compared to carbed machines.

I agree with giddyup, if you can swing it go fi just to avoid carb/fuel related issues it is well worth it imao even if it means burning more fuel. I myself don't quite understand why the 700 series is even still offered in a non fi version. They are such a big investment regardless.

I would definitely go with X730 and get the fuel injection. The X730 also has the hydraulic couplers in stalled and the X710 does not. Your X730 will drink gas, that's just how they are. Make your peace with it from the start and it hurts less.

If you can swing the Diesel, get it. With proper care, these machines last practically forever. Amortize the extra cost of the Diesel over the next 20 years and see if it still makes sense to try and save a few bucks vs. what you gain.

Electronic fuel injection corrects the air/fuel ratio so you never have an excessively rich or lean condition. This is the main reason spark plugs last longer, valves are not burned and piston rings do not lose their tension resulting in shorter engine life. Kohler claims their EFI engine burns 30% less fuel. And while Kawasaki makes no definitive claims they do say their EFI engines offer significant fuel savings. And I know EFI engines start easily no matter what the outside temperature, altitude etc, something a carburetor cannot do as efficiently.
