I have installed XM Satellite Radio on my JD 2210 Tractor. First I had to install a 12 Volt outlet in the Dash. Next week I will probably hard wire the XM Receiver into the electrical system and keep the outlet for a Spot Light or something. Next I'm thinking of installing a winch, anyone got experience with winch installation? Greg, I saw your pictures of your Roady installed on the dash. I've got a SkyFi2 unit and have considered doing the same thing.

Do you transmit to a pair of Peltor sound deadening ear muffs with a radio built in?

I have ordered JVC HANC100 Noise Cancelling Headphones, with the Retractable Cord system to try.

I have a XM MYFI that I'm using for our trip.
I have used my Work Tunes but am thinking about using a set of noise canceling heads phones instead. Because the Work Tunes are to hard to tune.
Let us know how they work.

Hey, I have thought about doing the same on my JD 4510, but am worried about getting the unit all dirty and dusty. I am trying to think of a box to maybe put it in with some sort of seal. What do you think about that? I was also thinking of using some "ear plug" headphones or just getting some car speakers and hooking it up that way. But, I am just thinking out loud. I haven't started doing anything, yet!

I thought of using a small Tupperware container, placing the lid under the mount and using the container as the cover, but that took too much space where I wander it mounted. I will look for some type of bag to cover the receiver with (Zip-Lock or Draw-String). I use a Crown Royal bag to carry my SKYFI2 from the house to the car!

I have upgraded from the Roady to the SkyFi2. With the head phones (pictured) I can hear good even at cutting RPM's. The new Head phones should come today or tomorrow.

I guess I'm not the only one who has thought about XM on their tractor. Now you've got me thinking about it more seriously.

If you are using the SkyFi or SkyFi2 and want to protect it from the elements, Delphi makes an enclosure designed for marine or motorcycle use. The enclosure is included in the marine kit, but it can be purchased separately. I recently purchased my SkyFi2 with kits for home, auto and marine use from xmfanstore.com. I picked up the equipment in person and was impressed with the place. They handle just about everything related to XM. You can find the enclosure on their homepage. Scroll down to parts & accessories and look for Delphi Motorcycle/Marine Waterproof SkyFi case. The case would be used in addition to a vehicle adapter kit. It's not cheap, but it is designed for such a purpose and should do the job quite well.

With the SkyFi2 and the enclosure, you can use the built-in FM modulator to feed any set of earmuffs with a built-in radio and have a wireless connection. This would allow you to get on/off the tractor when needed and avoid the hazard of a branch snagging a wire running to your earmuffs/headphones.

I am a little concerned about vibration bothering the receiver. I suppose if you can mount the unit on a motorcycle, it should handle being used on a tractor.................Steve

Would an MP3 player work just as well? My wife swears by the thing.

Greg,
How will you control the volume?

My noise cancelling headphones will plug into the output of the SkyFi2 base unit, but there is no volume control.

The Peltor Work Tunes has volume control and could just be tuned into the correct station to receive the signal wirelessly. I don't want to be wired onto my tractor which is why I was thinking of the Peltor (or other similar brands) with radios built into the sound deadening muffs.

ByronBob,
Yes an MP3 player would work too, but only to play what you already have recorded. The thing I like about XM is that I can choose music, talk, news, sports, etc depending on what I want to listen to, and all of it is live. And none of it is static filled like the regular radio. I'm just on the edge of where the reception gets lously, so I lose some of the Chicago FM stations, especially on portable radios.
