 My wife just got another rogue program on her computer. She was using Google Chrome and got the XP Internet Security 2010 (virus, worm, trojan, whatever it is).

I'm about to start searching the web to find the best way to remove it.

Has anyone had it yet and found the easiest way to get rid of it?

I usually start with a download and install of Malwarebytes or maybe superantispyware.

Read up on it a bit more before you start trying to remove it. There are a few free tools designed to clean up just that specific problem. Also, if I recall correctly, it may infect your system restore, so if you try to do that, it just restores itself. malwarebytes is a good start.

Last night I downloaded Malwarebytes to the infected computer but it did not help because the rogue program was able to block it. After reading up on it for hours I see that I must download Malwarebytes with my computer to a flash drive so that I can install it in her computer in the proper way.

This is going to take some time and I have a heavy schedule today so I may be able to try again tonight.

I got one of those a couple of years ago. What a PITA. Another vote here for Malwarebytes. Don't give up, you'll get it.

Try SuperAntiSpyware It randomizes its name so that the malware cannot block it based on the name and has removed everything that I have thrown it up against.

While we were on a vacation our nephew (housesitting) got something bad installed on our computer. At least he fessed up to it.

I knew I had Malwarebytes on a USB stick from the office and tried to install it. NO GO. Whatever infected the machine wouldn't let me install the program. And then I looked at my programs and remembered that I'd already installed Malwarebytes.

I ran the program, problem gone.

And I learned that installing Malwarebytes AFTER an infection can be problematic.

We had a virus attack my wifes computer a few months ago...the thread is on TBN about it ..and it was called an " Open With Virus " no matter what you try to open on your computer a window would come up and say " open with " I tried malware and it got rid of some of the worms and viruses but after talking to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and another computer service person ..it was deemed incurable ..so instead of reformatting ..I ust went to wally world and bought a new laptop and got a great deal..$348.00 is what that virus cost me and we had McAfee up to date on the computer..so the lesson is be very careful what you click when a window opens..these virus programs immitate all of the various Virus Scan companies and once you click to close the window or fix the problem you install all of the viruses...it is disgusting this goes on...but what can you do ? Just be aware.
