Friend of mine has a 'new to him' XR3135 with about 600 hours on it. He let another guy use it, who proceeded to put about 5 gallons of GASOLINE into the tank, then ran it for a while still. This has led to sputtering, smoking, knocking, and who-knows-what-else.

So, I'm trying to help him out and we were able to maneuver the tractor into my barn. Going to drain the tank, filters, and try to bleed out the fuel lines as well.

Does the fuel tank have a drain? If not, is it easily removed so I can just pull it and drain it more easily? Any other tips for purging the rest of the fuel system?

Thanks in advance

If it has an electric lift pump it may be easier to just disconnect a fuel line and let the tractor (not running, key on) pump the contaminated fuel out.
My plan would be to pump all the fuel out that can be pumped, fill with diesel, then bleed the lines at the injectors.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but I wouldn't mind just pulling the tank and cleaning the whole thing out anyhow (if it's fairly straight-forward to remove).

The lift pump is not electric on this model. It is a manually operated primer on top of the filter base. I don't think there is a tank drain but maybe you could remove the fuel hose off the bottom of the tank and drain it that way or pump it out with a small pump. I bought a battery operated one from harbor freight for about $12. Better than siphoning. Once the filter is drained and you put fresh fuel in it, after bleeding the air out and if it starts, it will still have bad fuel in the injection pump and injector lines so it may still run rough and smoke until that clears out. If it won't start, you will have to crack the injection lines loose at the injectors and crank it until fresh fuel comes out at the fittings.

Don’t crack injector lines this is a CRD common rail injection system under far greater pressure than old diesel motor. Replace both filters re prime off filter housing which has a priming pump. What little gas that is left in the rail is not a big deal. Hopefully the dude who has put in the gas has not trash the emissions feature on the diesel engine. If ran for few minutes you may be lucky if ran for hours not so lucky. Don’t pull tank as mentioned siphon and flush with new diesel fuel to remove gas from tank. No good deed goes unpunished as my grandfather use to tell me on loaning out equipment. Hopefully all is alright

You should not crack injector lines on a common rail system when the engine is running, but does not matter if you do it before cranking. That's how you bleed the rail. I stated that it is only necessary if it won't start.
