I wish more manufacturers would change this. In the old days when tractors were just to pull things the large rear wheels and small fronts worked great. Now much of the work these smaller tractors do is with the FEL. When you think about the weight being carried by each axle when the FEL is being used it's obvious that the front axle is carrying much of the load on those tiny tires and axles.

You notice construction equipment with loaders often have similar sized tires on the front axle. There is a reason for that.
First of all, what else does bigger tires do besides give more flotation?

They increase the traction greatly! Compacts already have some what under built front ends, and the much increased traction of bigger tires, will lead to more blown front end parts. The MFG's keep war. down by letting the front "slip" a little, instead of over stressing those front end parts.

Industrial tractors have tougher front ends, to take the stress' that bigger loads/tires put on the front end parts.

They do this to keep costs down, not because it works better.

I remember you suggesting an off road fork lift to me at one point. Do they put the load on the little tires or the big tires?

That's right. The big tires carry the load. Better flotation and stability. Easier to roll when loaded as well.

I believe that the bigger the load an axle has to carry the bigger the tire needs to be. That's been my experience and I believe it to be true.

OP is wise to be concerned. Get that thing loaded with the weight of the tractor and the load all on the front axle and dip a little front tire into some unstable soil or snow and it will sink. Suddenly the weight is almost all on one of those tires with no weight on the rear. Not good. I've been there.

Big back tires are for pulling. That's 'why tractors are somewhat unique in thier design and most other equipment with a FEL like a skid steer or telehandler have bigger front tires to carry the load.

Man, those do look kind of ridiculous, haha. My tractor needed new front tires, so I just went ahead and installed the larger set of tires that Branson had as options, much happier now.

Wouldn't installing taller tires on just the front mess things up with the 4 wheel drive? Front tires would be trying to go faster than the rears.

Yes. He put new tires all around. (There is a thread about it.)
