Good job shortening that mount up. I know some people prefer the front or rear winch mount, but I like mine fixed on the front. I foresee someone offering a modified brush guard with integrated winch mount that would allow a compact installation without having the winch 1 inch ahead of the brush guard. Moving the bottom bar of the brush guard down a few inchs would allow that.

Here are some pix of my winch mounting plate before and after cutting it shorter. The final installation is very short. You can see that the back of the winch is only a few inches from the bumper. The pix with the tape measure hanging has the front hook along the grill screen, which is several inches behind the bumper. The first three are before shortening and the last three afterwards.

You would have to be attempting to start up a 70 degree hill for this to be in the way.

I have an HPX but I saved (at the time) close to $200 by buying the winch myself (not JD's set-up). All required connections came with the winch and I did not need to buy anything from JD. I mounted a seperate switch which came with the winch in the dash. Now my winch is a Ramsey not Warn but it has worked great with no problems.

It looks like you can save even more for the XUV. I got a quote for $700 for the winch from JD. On line it looks like the Warn 3000# winch is around $360-$400 with the remote.

I bought the Warn RT30 for $375 delivered, the extra wiring kit with quick disconnects at both ends of the XUV for $83 and a mounting plate for $54 delivered. I have all the same exact parts as the JD kit plus the extra handlebar mount rocker switch which I may mount in the dash of the Gator. That way, I will have the corded remote PLUS a dash switch. Total cost bought seperately was $512 including all freight and taxes. The ONLY difference is that the JD model has a different decal on the motor.

$200 saved and I have an extra switch.
