Took note of a comment by another XUV user who mentioned a rattle noise in back down low. I have what sounds like the same noise. I have the 850D. Seems to occur at slow speed and goes away as you build RPM and speed. Don't recall that on my 05 HPX diesel. Sounds kind of like a few large washers vibrating on a bolt. I have looked it over pretty good but don't see what it could be. Doesn't make the noise sitting still at idle. WOndering if it might be clutch related. Talked to my dealer about it. They ran a DTAC with Deere and didn't come up with anything. XUV might be too new for that. They are going to stop and check it out. Not a big deal but would like to identify source and correct if possible. Going to try and hold up on emergency brake level just a bit to see if it goes away with tension on that.

If anyone else has same issue or I find something out post back.

I have the XUV gas and have a similar rattle. I had an 06 HPX and it was a whole lot quieter, but it wasn't as fast or didn't ride as well. Everything looks tight. I figure it must be the way it was engineered. It is annoying but it doesn't seem to effect the performance. I would like to quiet it down if there is a way but I still like the machine. Mine actually seems more like a vibration than rattle and occurs mainly when accelerating and at top end.

Interesting that you have the gas model. Mine does sound more like a vibration. I thought mine might be inherit with the diesel engine. I have my bed off getting a liner sprayed in. Maybe I can better track the noise down with the bed off.

If both the diesel and gas are making a similar noise, one would deduct the vibration sound may be found regardless the engine. In that case the drive train would be suspect. I guess there is the outside chance both engines may have a problem. I'm pretty sure this Kawasaki is the same engine they had in the 06 HPX (which I traded in and was very quiet) with the only real change being in the fuel injection. I wouldn't think that would cause a vibration. I bet it is in the tighter fitting belt drive or has something to do with the reconfigured floating rear end.

I had the power lift on my xuv. It seemed to have a rattle from the pin and clip that went into the bed. I had a rattle in my brakes also at a slow speed. I could click the park brake one click and it would quit. When I drove on the road (dead end) at high speed it sounded like the front end was about to fall out. My dealer acused me of being picky. I was just not happy spending almost 10k and these noises driving me crazy. It has been sitting at the dealer with 8 hours on it for over 6 weeks. They are trying to sell it for me and it looks like I may have to loose 1k to sell it. Now I'm picky and sick. JC

I may be hard of hearing but I don't hear any rattles on mine.

I'm very pleased with the xuv~!

I was looking at the drive belt and the enclosure. On the bottom side the belt rests pretty close to the enclosure with engine off. I'm wondering if this isn't causing the enclosure to vibrate and make that noise till the belt tightens as you build speed causing the noise to go away. My 05 HPX didn't make this noise that I recall. The enclosure was changed for the XUV. I think for both the gas and diesel. The diesel isn't a full enclosure. I might see how hard it is to remove the enclosure and test for the noise.

i can see some really good deals coming around on some 07 model xuv's in a few months. they are gonna fix the problems on the 08 models and whoever buy's the 07's are gonna get some really good deals because the dealers are gonna have to fix the 07's too.lol.like i said when they hadn't even been released yet the first year is the worst year to buy any thing that is being released. there are gong to be to many bugs to be worked out in it.whatch and see if the 08's don't have a diferent rearend i still have a funny feeling about that rearend on the xuv and i think they will change it on the 08's . the 07's to was a rush to get them out there to see how they would do and they are seeing how they are doing from what it looks like people are returning them unhappy and unsatisfied.so i figure there will be a big change next year or there will not be much sales of the xuv. they should add the 3 extra hp to the hpx too.

I had an 05 HPX. I now have an 07 XUV. The XUV is a new model but much has been retained from the HPX. Other then the rearend much of the XUV is the proven HPX design. They still use the same body and adapted the new rearend. This allows Deere to retain the HPX and the XUV. Much of the parts base is reused. The 4WD system is the same as on the 06 HPX from what I have seen. The XUV did allow Deere to add bigger tires, speed it up considerably, and soften the ride. Granted the rearend isn't proven but I'm more then happy with my choice regardless of the rattle I'm trying to track down. The dealer is more then willing to stop at my house to take a look. If Deere is going to have issues with the 07 XUV I would say it would have to been centered around the new rearend, and thats yet to be seen, because much of the rest is HPX.

Hey guys
I have almost 50 hrs on my xuv and have not had any problems except it louder than my 6x4. My neighbor has an 06 hpx and mine rides twice as good.
As far as the rearend is concerned I think it is as tough or tougher than the hpx.
My dealer had 17 xuvs in stock and sold all of them. I think it is a pretty fair machine for its first year

I had some issues with the mower I bought for my tractor. I did several 40 mile trips trying to get it worked out, and I did not want to go through that with the xuv. Good luck all you new owners, they are alot of fun, mine sold today, so I'm officially out of the gator business. JC

I've got 25 hours on my XUV now. Majority are just around the farm. When I do get out on the road, I can hear a rattle. My rattle was being caused by my bedliner. When I put the rear screen on the ROPS, I had to tilt the head of the bed back. This put a little play in the bedliner, and the result was this god-awful rattle w/road vibrations. I glued a piece of felt on the front of the bedliner...problem solved.
That's not to say I don't have some rattles, but every Ranger, Gator, and/or RTV I've every been on has made some noise. It isn't like we buy them with the same expectations as a Cadillac!

I have close to 100 hours on mine and love it. My dealer ordered 10 to start with and has since ordered 10 more.
They have sold more XUV's in 3 months than they did in 2 years with the hpx.
Only 2 problems I have heard about were from one person. You can't please all the people all the time.. :)
XUV is a helluva a little vehicle. I wouldn't deprive my boys nor myself of the enjoyment it brings for nothing in the world~!

Sorry I never met up with you Skip. Even though I'm the one that was not pleased with my xuv, I'm glad nobody else is having trouble. As for depriving myself or my son, that's not going to happen. He has his gator, loves to ride the tractor and the x495 I brought home today. Plus we have a Samurai that is only a little bigger than the xuv, a whole lot cheaper, and will go anywhere I want to go. JC

I have the top and doors off for summer.

I'm sorry I didn't meet you yet as well. We live close, eventually we will get another chance. I'm sure it would be a pleasure.
I'm sorry if you misunderstood my post. (I'm not the most eloquent poster)
My sons and even my wife have come to depend on the xuv. They use it for everything. Before the gator no one was very willing to do some chores. Now they think of chores to do so they can involve the gator. All my fence rows are clean. Barbwire is tight. All the rocks on my property and the neighbors have been relocated to my rock garden. Everyone seems to work better together. Its the best addition to our family since the 1st of 8 puppies~! :)

Craig.

I traded my gas XUV for the diesel model, and I do not have any rattles. In fact, it seems much tighter than the gas one I owned for four weeks., indicating to me JD shored up its finish work on these annoying noises pretty quickly. I do wonder if the rattle you might be hearing is the screener on the exhaust. My two previous HPX gators which had diesels rattled like that at idle and became quiet when RPM's increased. The only way I ever figured it out was that one of the screeners rattled so much and was loose enough to just fall off, and the sound disappeared. Because I am really not sure what these things really do aside from slightly reducing soot output, I left it off and it never rattled again. Just a thought.

Screener = spark arrestor. Please don't go offroad without one. The spark arrestor does as the name implies. They are not 100% effective but they do help prevent fires~!

Skip,

Thanks for the advice here. Interestingly, they DO rattle and frequently seem to fall off. So, I am not arresting many sparks seemingly.
