It isn't that difficult to reach down and unsnap it. In most cases you are better off staying with the tractor, but somebody always comes up with that one exception and treats it as gospel..Assuming it's not AI....
This video raises an interesting question. We are told to always wear the seatbelt if the tractor has a ROPS. Assuming it had a ROPS and not just a canopy, do we think he would have been better off belted in as per the common advice or being able to bail like he did?
Very scary!!! I think the only thing that could have saved him is if he dropped the tiller to the ground right as he gained speed.
I thought it had a front bucket at first... anyway, the tiller appears to have been running, and was probably set to push the tractor forward. Disconnecting the PTO, and it may freewheel. Still, dropping it would be better than nothing, and might have kept the tractor straight (but still not saving it). What an idiot, drop the tiller and get off the brakes
I wonder if insurance covers that?
Bingo!Kinda amazing someone just happened to be there recording with a camera, held steady and able to even zoom in as it went over the cliff. As far as what he could have done, his brain was overloaded with the immediate situation of getting off the thing if needed as it slid to the cliff. Pilots often just stop flying airplanes and ride to the crash site when in panic situations. The brain can only process so much data and is more easily overloaded than people realize.
I've watched the clip a few times. There is no indication of how or why he got to the start place. He begins the clip with the right hand on the fender, and appears to be relaxed and casually steering with his left hand. Then he bales out at the last possible moment as the tractor tumbles over the dropoff.Kinda amazing someone just happened to be there recording with a camera, held steady and able to even zoom in as it went over the cliff. Not mine!I doubt he'll do that again. I heard that he wants to borrow the neighbors tractor.
