New form of downsizing.

I just whacked an enclosed porch, returning it to open. Unfortunate most of the wood was beyond salvage. I "reclaimed" about 360 square feet.

Good for you. Big open porches are cool. I know they went out of favor when AC came into the picture, but I always liked them.

Had planned on total rebuild of elevated 12x24 deck last year...

Also priced out the aluminum version and thought too expensive but maybe not?

A quick look shows the Lowe's price of $30 for a 12'x1"x5.5" composite board. Equivalent pressure treated is $11. So $2.50 ft. vs. $1.00 or so.

I enjoy installing them compared to pressure treated. Also they won't warp like crazy as the new pressure treated boards do. They do get about as hot as asphalt on a sunny summer day, but I'm rarely barefoot on my PT deck, so it doesn't seem like it would be a big deal in practice.

I have two projects on hold because of lumber prices. We had a pool put in the early fall and I need to replace the privacy fence we took down to get the pool in and replace about half of one side of the fence that is crumbling. Also, the dock on our lake has rotted to the point it is unusable. I just cannot bring myself to pay the current prices for lumber.

I haven't owned any long term, but I'm told by others, that they hold up pretty good...
