I'd say if you can handle 4 kids.. you'll do fine w/ that TC24. Have the dealer go over the tractor's operations from buttons to levers, etc.. once you get over the "newness".. it'll be fun!

Lots of really good advice here...like go slow and respect the hills and uneven ground. I think the key is to keep in mind the machine's limitations (which they all have) and work w/i those bounds. Theres enough info in this forum for you to get a good picture of what those bounds are so youre way ahead of the game in that respect. Hope to see your 'Im a new tractor owner' post soon.

I think you would be fine, I actually do a lot of business in VA. Especially in the winchester area. New Holland makes a great compact thats easy to use. If you concerned about feeling comfortable I would also take a look at Kubota. Its been my experience that first time tractor buyers feel more comfortable there.

It's not that I wouldn't feel comfortable using the machine, and doing routine maintenance wouldn't be a problem. I am more worried about damaging the tractor itself by my inexperience with that particular machine ie working it too hard at first, wrong gears, etc. Also anyone else not like the new 2004 models, I guess I will get lucky because I am going to prefer picking up one of the 2003's that they are trying to get rid of.

After looking at your previous posts.....box blading is your major concern and possibly a finish mower. If money is tight you can always get a RFM for about half of a MMM. If you can swing it, get the loader now, it may be at a better price than getting it later.
If you try to over-work the TC24 with a box blade, it will let you know. It'll run out of traction before you damage much.
The Class I Boomer is an awesome machine for it's size, especially at the top of the line 24HP.
If you're not looking at a finish mower from Corriher, there are 2 dealers of Midwest finish mowers that I know of in VA
