FYI.

My right and left front axel gear boxes leaked gear oil from around the "O" ring seal between the upper bell and lower gear box. While I had the upper bell and lower gearbox dissembled I replaced the kingpin bushings and the axel seals as well as installing the correct shim clearance, and replacing "O" rings on right and left sides. However the right side gear box continued to leak from the "O" ring.

Upon looking closely at the inside of the upper bell of the right side gear box, I discovered that after 30 years of rice paddy grit and dirt seeping into the "O" ring area, that I had quite a large "gully" worn into the inside diameter of the upper bell where the "O" ring should seal. Therefore the new "O" ring will not stop the leak.---what to do? I certainly did not want to replace the upper bell and lower gear box with the newer style which use oil seals in lieu of the "O" ring.

"The fix that I came up with was to mount the lower gear box casting in one of my lathes and cut a second "O" ring groove above the orignal groove and have two "O" rings.

Worked very well and no leaks. Hope this helps someone

That was good thinking, me, I would be looking at a new part or at least JB Weld.
