Yanmar 1500 Water pump solution

Engine oil temp and collant temp are two different things, your oil can be 240 degrees and not be hurting anything as long as your rad is cooling enough and running under 215-220 at max, and prolly a lot cooler than that unless your flat out working it on a 100 degree day for hours.

The oil is not pressurized (at least in the crankcase, its got a breather) so it will boil moisture off right around 212F. Camel is talking boiling moisture out of oil the radiator is almost irrelevant to the oil temp except that they both go up in temp and level at some point, oil though will get hotter than a correctly functioning radiator, at least i think so. I think you can easily have 190F water and 220F oil temp.

Engines that don't run much can have water condense in the oil. This is very hard on things if the oil does not get above 212 deg. to boil it off. So engines that sit, like boats and tractors need hotter thermostats for longevity. Don't be afraid of 220-230 degs., those are reasonable temperatures.
While overheating an engine can cause acute symptoms and failure, damage from running cool is just as destructive.

All of my vehicles, including the tractor, show 255-260* as max on the temp gauge, and none even get near the 1/2 mark. If they do there is a problem.

My Yanmar 1500 water temp run between 195 and 220 deg depending on engine load durning 90+ deg weather. If radiator gets plug temp will go to about 230-240 until I clean it.
Low 1/2 quart of oil can cause temp to increase 10-15 degs. Aquired tractor in spring of 2003 (7 Years) and have run without any problems on engine running at these temp. Good power, no oil usage or leak, never had to add water. Do run about 20/80 mix during hot weather and 50/50 in the winter.

If it were mine I would back-flush the system.

Turnerbend's numbers are about what mine does. Mine has a new radiator and the cooling system has been well flushed. I see no problem. It is working within the design parameters.

I removed the Radiator core, rebuilt, and system flushed when I brought the tractor in 2003.

OK Here it is i just searched and came up with an old post. Seem that there is a kit for a 1700 but NOT for the 1500. I mis spoke. Here is the link where Aaron from Hoye explains that one is not availible.

FYI... I know this is a revived old thread but the water pump kit for the 1500 is available now (though it was not when that post was made back in 2009). Yes... it is pricey but there are a lot of custom made pieces in the kit.
