Yanmar 1700B Voltage Regulator

I have a YM1700B. The alternator has gone bad. The alternator is a Hitachi LT115-52. My understanding is this is an externally regulated alternator. However, I can't seem to locate the voltage regulator. Can anyone shine some light on this? Where is the voltage regulator?

There's two types. The New SS. Yanmar Tractor Parts: VOLTAGE REGULATOR - New Solid State Design or you still have the old style. The old is just behind the Ing. Switch. Rectangle box with the Wire harness connected. Hope that helps.

I replaced mine when I first got my 1700. I had charging problems. There are other post here concerning the voltage regulator, dig around some. You can get a voltage regulator and alternator at the auto parts store that works just fine for cheaper. I think its for a 72 Datsun, but check for the other post The plug is suppose to be an exact match, in my case it was not- so I cut the old plug off and spliced it on the new regulator. Worked like a champ. The alternator was an exact match.

Are you saying the VR is near the ignition switch? If so, that would explain why I can't see it. The fuel tank is blocking my view.

Yep! here is a old pic. I came accross. I couldn't get a clear shot of it but you can see the corner of it. It's on the fire wall and my Work light is blocking most of it. Your Find it if it's still there. I "Doubt" you have the SS. I don't think I've heard of one going or bad. I'm sure there is but Rare. If you have a big chain auto parts test the Alt. mine was a 72Nissan 510. I also have both.Old and new Reg. The Prev. owner threw parts at it for me. I found the Bad wiring connection a few months after I bought it. After finding the bad connection with Curiousity I hooked the Old Reg. backup WahLa It's Good.

i put a hitachi on mine when i got it as the oem one was bad.

found one onthe shelf at the local rebuilder... used an old style chrysler regulator.

charged great.

I appreciate the help guys. My alternator is definately bad, and a new one is on the way. I'm assuming the VR is good. It's still good to know where it's located. Finding info on these grey market tractors can turn into a full-time job.
