Yanmar 177

Brion,

I have lists of models and specifications that go way back...but when I discuss the YM177 it's always the same, long pauses and blank stares. In fact, to this day, I was searching for the engine number and just found it in your post.

Can't remember if I've ever suggested to a Yanmar owner to sell one and go with something else...but in this instance you might consider a future purchase of a better supported Yanmar tractor. Or keep it in the off chance that it has that very rare residual value to a collector of small diesel tractors.

It pains me to say this but eventually all tractors break, and in your case parts will have to be replicated by an experienced machine shop or foundry, and those costs will be prohibitive considering your options.

Good luck,

Mark

Ok, but how can I sell it now with a clear conscious? Who would buy it? The other frustrating thing is that I just put a loader on it through EFC machinery. They said that it should be no problem to find parts and they deal with tractors like mine everyday. Well, now it doesn't seem so. The whole thing is frustrating me. At any rate, thanks for all the help on this forum, I will use this forum for now on for advice. :)

EFC and Buck are one of the best dealers out there. They are on this forum also. Maybe he knows something that we do not.

Talk to him again, explain in detail what you have said here, and see what he says.

I do have a YM177 parts manual. When you called about the filters I just asked you to measure the size of your fuel filter so I could be sure our filter would fit. I didn't say I could not help.

I did not say parts would be "no problem" what I said is "we should be able to find you Parts". Which is true. Because I can find you parts does not mean the whole world can or even that one other person can. I didn’t say all parts are on a shelf readily available to any knuckle draggin Joe without an ounce of effort. OEM Parts for older tractors take time, sometimes a lot of time and diligent effort. Sometimes they are even d**m expensive. Doesn’t mean they are not available. The good news is what isn’t available can be rebuilt or manufactured. How do you think we support the tractors we sell? Better yet how do you think we support any Ford, Massey or the like from the same era?

I put a quality loader on your tractor for a great price. I wasn’t telling you I could help with parts to sell a loader, In fact I am 15 loaders behind right now and we pushed other customers back to focus on your tractor because you had such a long drive. I told you I could find parts because that is what I was willing to do, regardless of the fact that I didn’t sell you the tractor. I would have been willing even if you bought nothing from me.

Hi Buck! I sent you a personal email as well. Just so everyone knows (as I guess it didn't come across in my posts)... I am extremely satisfied with EFC and Buck's work and the loader. My frustration is that parts for it are not available. I am willing to do whatever is necessary (in fact I have spent probably 30 hours on this research) to keep my tractor running properly. All I want to know is *if* parts are available when/where can I get them. This tractor was given to me by someone close to me as an inheritance and I want it to live on. Thanks to all again...

Buck and Aaron prove again why we are so fortunate to have them participate in this forum.

Thank you and all the dealers that we rely for information and parts for our "antiques". :D

I wholeheartedly agree with MJPetersen. I spoke with Aaron and sent him some measurements and pictures of the filters. I also exchanged some emails with Buck... We'll get there, and again I'll reiterate that my frustration is not with any person, it's just the situation of trying to find parts for something that has no real monetary value....It's just a personal value... I appreciate EVERYONE's help, you guys are the best!

I got your pictures and the YM177 is nothing like any other yanmar I have seen. It does look like, according to my parts manuals, that the YM270 & YM273 also use the same setup but they are equally rare. Would it be possible to post your pictures here? I can post them for you if you would like.
