yanmar 1802
I am considering building a log splitter but read that some tractors hydraulic system isnt strong enough. Do the smaller yanmars have this problem

My understanding is that the volume of the tractor's output is the limiting factor, not the "strength." Your 1802 uses the same pump as a Yanmar 1510 does, referenced by Hoye to produce about 4.8 gallons per minute. Most log splitter pumps have a reduced pressure stage that moves 3 to 4 times that volume, obviously decreasing the cycle time by the corresponding amount. The pressure is sufficient, the tractor pump just doesn't move enough volume to be cycle the cylinder on a splitter rapidly.

Yes, they do have that problem. I am thinking your 1802 has the same pump my 2002 has. My pump is rated at 10cc/revolution equaling 6.34gpm. I think you will find most splitters needing more than that to have a decent cycle time. I just read 284s post and you may have the 1510 pump. My 2002d had power steering and I know my flow rate is what I am stating as I have the pump tag in hand showing those specs. Only way you can know for sure is to look at the tag on your pump. Good chance it is a Kanzaki pump. I would be interested in your findings. :D

Definitely do as Winston suggests and check your pump's data plate. I should have suggested that, and just went by what Hoye sells as the replacement pump for your machine. Verifying what you actually have is a much better plan.

I have a 10 tonne logsplitter on a Yanmar F215 using the tractor hydraulics.
The cylinder bore is 60mm diameter.
However the 10 tonnes is produced at 4786psi so at tractor hydraulics it is producing less than half the specced tonnage.
I find the speed to be fine , in fact any faster and I would not feel safe using it and it splits everything I need except where branches join the main stem.

I am i canada right now so I'll check the plate when I get back. Here is another question, how hard it it to make the top link hydraulic? I do not have the fel so shouldnt those valves be open for me to use?

Well the dealer told me the tractor could later have an fel put on it. So I assumed the hydraulic hooks must already be in place

I think there is a place on your 1802 to tap in but the loader valve would come with a loader and a top link valve would have to be installed in order to operate a hydraulic top link.
